In practice, this means two things. First, we give you an honest assessment from the outset: your chances of success, the anticipated costs and the options available to you, including negotiation and mediation when circumstances allow. Second, we adapt the billing method to the nature of the case rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all formula.

Fee Formulas Tailored to Your Case

Here are the main formulas we offer. They can also be combined within a single file.

Hourly Rate

The classic formula: you pay for the time actually devoted to your file. It works well for cases whose scope is hard to predict. Our technological environment makes us particularly efficient, so every billed hour is an hour well invested. Whenever possible, we send a detailed monthly invoice so you can track costs in real time.

Flat Fee

When the scope of services is well defined — for example an uncontested divorce, the drafting of a court proceeding or a well-circumscribed hearing — we can agree on a fixed price, known in advance. No surprises: you know exactly what it will cost.

Percentage

In certain cases, fees may correspond to a percentage of the amounts recovered. Our interests are then directly aligned with yours: we get paid based on results. A variant, the reverse percentage, sets a minimum and a maximum payable, keeping everything predictable.

Instalments

An important case should not be out of reach because the bill comes all at once. We can agree on periodic payments adapted to your budget, much like a financing plan.

Other Formulas

Depending on the circumstances, other arrangements are possible: value-added fees, adjusted according to what our services actually brought you; fees corresponding to a provision for costs awarded by the court, notably in family matters; an exchange of services; and, exceptionally, pro bono mandates. Transparency at Every Step

At any time, you may request an estimate of the services to come, and we will inform you if the circumstances of the file change it. Disbursements — court fees, bailiff, stenographer, expert reports and other amounts paid to third parties — are explained to you and billed at actual cost. In the event of a disagreement over an invoice, you have a free recourse: the conciliation and arbitration of accounts service of the Barreau du Québec, within 45 days of receiving it. You also remain free to end the mandate at any time.
